What’s New in Apple’s watchOS 4
Apple got off to a fairly challenging start with the watchOS 1 and 2. And the third installation of this smartwatch-based software was, by all means, commendable for the impressive improvements it made to the flagship wearable device OS. Still, Apple was really excited to tell us what they had in store for its smartwatch users during the WWDC 2017.
But having offered so much with the watchOS 3, what extra perks could watchOS 4 possibly give iWatch users? For one, its widely lauded predecessor gave us a 7 times boost in app launch speeds and a host of other endearing features. However, Apple still managed to make some improvements when creating its newest generation of the watchOS; and here’s the scoop.
What’s New in watchOS 04?
A Watch Face Based on Siri
Apple hit the home run with its intelligent personal assistant, Siri. And everywhere throughout the Apple ecosystem, users cannot get enough of this beloved voice-based program. Not surprisingly, one of the biggest improvements the company has made to its Apple iWatch OS is the introduction of an improved version of this personal assistant.
With the watchOS 04, Siri also will decide what to display on your watch face based on information found in your apps and calendar. This is a first for the watch-based software, and it’s definitely a nice touch since you can now enjoy things like more relevant app shortcuts based on your usage patterns. They have also thrown in a few new watch faces – including Mickey, Minnie.
More For Fitness Buffs
Many Apple watch users can’t do without the fitness apps that come with this device. Apple has certainly not forgotten this important group of users. For instance, with the Activity app, you will now know how close you are to hitting that elusive workout target.
And now, professional help will be close by, thanks to smart coaching’, which has been personalised to provide monthly challenges based on your history and workout logs. Then there is also a new High-Intensity Interval Training workout, and it’s pretty impressive at helping you push your physical limits and achieve your much-anticipated fitness goals.
Another great workout feature is the Workout app’s ability to reset automatically after each swimming lap. With this new software, your iWatch will now link more easily and effectively to NFC-enabled Gym cardio equipment using the GymKit app. The watch should, therefore, swap info with indoor bikes, ellipticals, treadmills and other gym equipment and get data on calories, speed, pace, and so forth in one place for added convenience.
More for Music Lovers
A lot of work has gone into watchOS 4’s Music app. First of all, this app is more intuitive, and it will keep the tracks you love the closest by. The album design has also been tweaked a bit for better aesthetics. You can also have multiple playlists with the new app.
Pay and Get Paid using Apple Pay
Through messages, or with the help of Siri, you can now make person to person payments using your iWatch; and you have watchOS 4 to thank for that. It’s really remarkable that Apple has managed to make sending payments a whole lot more convenient by bringing this feature to the iWatch.
New Watch Faces
Apple is giving its iWatch users more choices through additional watch faces through the new watchOS, including popular Toy Story characters. And it’s not just some extra images to its stock of Apple watch faces users have to look forward to – Apple has gone the extra mile to create a feature it has christened the Kaleidoscope Face as well.
Like an actual kaleidoscope, this feature allows you to view changing images throughout the day. The images can be changed by turning the knob, and you can even add a few patterns to the photos if you like.
